Responsibilities and Opportunities for Blogger

"For of those to whom much is given, much is required" -JFK

To put a modern spin on President Kennedy's quote, another hero said, "With great power comes great responsibility" -Spiderman the Movie. The Internet is a powerful tool that only since the beginning of the decade has become mainstream. And like all new forms of technology there lacks a governing body to regulate its use.

For most of us that use the Internet it has become very personalized, from the homepage we first see everytime we log on, to the widgets we include on our social networking profile. Because of the ability to reach a wide audience in infinite locales those who use the Internet must regulate themselves.

Of course for the most part bloggers and anyone who uses the Internet are free to use it anyway they please but there are certain instances where users must censor themselves.

With school shootings becoming an ugly trend in American society; plans, how-tos, and DIY homemade explosives should not be a topic for blogs. On the other hand using the Internet as a tool for positive social change, the Internet can be used as an opportunity to reach thousands if not millions in the call for peace.

The duality of the Internet shown by this example illustrates how the same topic can be manipulated into something horrible or molded into positive action depending on how the user chooses.
